Reformation Sunday

This week the church celebrated 500 years since the Protestant Reformation. As a nod to this particularly notable anniversary, a favorite (non-religious) podcast of mine, Stuff You Missed in History Class, shared an episode dedicated to three women who were influential in making the reformation happen. I was especially fascinated to hear about the challenges former nuns faced if they wanted to leave their convent during this time, or in many cases, how many women were displaced when convents were shut down. I loved hearing about the practical ways Martin Luther supported some of these former nuns and the unique path that led to his own marriage. I didn't realize that we have Katharina von Bora—the first "pastor's wife"—to thank for some of the opportunities women have in ministry today.

Take a listen.
