Compassion and the Womb
Did you know that the Hebrew word for compassion is related to womb? In Exodus 24, when God calls himself compassionate, He is using a deeply emotional word, one that comes from deep within the gut, a word used often in coordination with the action of forgiveness and rescue.
The Bible Project explains in a recent video that God’s feelings toward us are connected to the deepest stirrings of the inner being. They are almost “woomish” in nature.
And these feelings lead him to action—to nourish us as a nursing mother who will not forget the child of her womb.
