On Nourishing vs. Housing

I feel like She-Ra when I nurse a baby, pouring forth nourishment miraculously made from my own body. Breastfeeding for me feels powerful and delightful and connective. I love nursing my babies. I feel hopelessly inadequate housing one.

It’s ok if there are some aspects of womanhood where you feel MADE 👏 FOR 👏 THIS 👏 and other parts where it seems like you are missing the right genes.

In a similar way, different aspects of the mothering metaphor will resonate more or less because each of us reflects the feminine Imago Dei in part, not the whole. No woman is supposed to be all the things. Yes, we bear God’s image, but we are never asked to be God ourselves.

That means, no one here is pushing you to be #momenough.

As you consider the different aspects of Biblical womanhood—nourishing, housing, nurturing, and more—which parts of this metaphor resonate for you? And where can you celebrate and honor other women who show God’s nature to you in other ways?
