Six Months
I waited a few days on this post so that I could include some official measurements. On Saturday, we celebrated Eloïse's half-birthday in Storrs traditional fashion by making her a half cake. (OK not really...instead, we enjoyed a fruit tart on her behalf.) She is now 13 pounds, 12 ounces and 25 inches long. That makes her 8 pounds, 6 ounces heavier and 6 inches longer than she was at birth—that's a lot to grow in six months!
Here are some things that we learned during Month Six:
Eloïse has a very particular sleep pose – blanket covering side of face, left two middle fingers in mouth. Once she assumes the position, I know that she is ready to fall asleep. She usually takes a couple of naps a day and, like her mama, enjoys sleeping in.
Favorite clothes at this stage include her Max + Ella pajamas, Gap bicycle romper, blue button down H&M blouse, and goldenrod shorts. She is profoundly bald, so most outfits include either a hat or headband for gender identification.
On the milestone front, Eloïse is now rolling over from her back to front. Like a reverse-turtle, she usually gets stuck on her belly. She also kind of sits. If you count laying flat, folded forward in butterfly pose.
She's finally able to appreciate the wooden toys Phil made for her at Christmas. The fish and knobbly donut are great for gumming. I am sure we are going to see teeth soon, considering how much drool she makes. With those pending teeth will eventually come eating. We had our first official meal (avocado), but are really still in the food-sampling phase.
Her first flight was mostly uneventful. Nothing to anger her fellow passengers, but unfortunately also no sleep on the red-eye we took. Once in Tennessee, where we celebrated my grandparents' 60th wedding anniversary, she very much enjoyed her Great Grandmom Opal, for whom she is named.
At the anniversary celebration, we also got a great family photo. It's nice to be a party of three.
